As the youngest sibling of five and the only girl born to a noble family, Alla was born into all the titles and nobility that she could never inherit. All the land and actual power will pass to her older brothers and she was raised with the knowledge that to have anything worthwhile, she’d have to marry it – or earn it herself, which sounded like a lot of work. She spent most of her teenage and early adult life distancing herself socially from her family class, passing her time drinking, tinkering, smoking and playing cards – and winning uncannily often due to a combination of skill at reading people within the confines of a gamble and a healthy dose of innate luck. She studied mechanics in college, along with the arts of ’mech warfare, with the vague idea of working on the grand machines and letting them take her far away from the life she was born into.
Her chance to earn her way came to her in the form of her Phoenix Hawk. Her great-uncle was another younger sibling who inherited a title and a ‘mech, but nothing else. When he died without wife or child, his title reverted down the line, but he bequeathed his ’mech to a niece he identified with – and one who had the talent and the drive to take care of his most valued possession. Alla took the opportunity the Phoenix Hawk gave her and signed up with the first mercenary company that would have her and her mechanic’s skills and never looked back.
She initially mistrusts anyone with a title, makes friends only slowly and half of her mind in a battle is on salvage. She smokes constantly in ridiculous indifference to obvious fire hazards – grease covered repair bays, ammo lockers, her own hair… And she still loves a good game of cards.
